Participant Accounts

MH

Margaret H.

British expatriate, Phuket

"I came to the Mapping Your Records session not really knowing what to expect. What I left with was a worksheet I actually sat down and completed the following morning. The session was very calm β€” nobody was pushed to share anything personal. I have been meaning to get these papers sorted for years."

Praphan T.

Thai resident, Phuket Town

"My wife and I attended the Family Intentions Workshop together. We had been avoiding this kind of conversation for a long time. The prompts in the guide were genuinely useful β€” not too formal, but enough to get us started. We have since had two conversations at home using the cards. That was unexpected."

Robert L.

Canadian, Rawai

"I signed up for Atlas Membership after attending the records workshop. The regular articles are readable and relevant β€” not the kind of dry material you would expect on this subject. The community sessions have been a good way to hear what questions other people are working through."

KS

Kannika S.

Thai-Australian, Chalong

"My situation involves documents in two countries, which made me feel like these topics were too complicated to approach. The Mapping Your Records session helped me see that it does not need to be all solved at once β€” you just start with what you know and build the picture from there."

James B.

Australian, Kathu

"The facilitator was very clear about what the session was and was not. I had been a little worried it might turn into a sales pitch for something else. It did not. We talked through document categories, filled in the worksheet, asked questions β€” that was it. Straightforward and genuinely useful."

Nantida P.

Thai resident, Thalang

"The Family Intentions Workshop was something I did not think I needed. My daughter encouraged me to attend. I am glad she did. We have now talked about things I had been putting off for three years. The conversation guides made it feel less serious and more normal β€” which is exactly what those conversations need."

REGION III β€” CASE STUDIES

A Closer Look at Three Journeys

Case Study 01

A Retired Couple in Phuket Who Could Not Agree on Where Their Paperwork Was

THE SITUATION

Two people, both in their late sixties, knew they had important papers but disagreed on exactly where different documents were stored. Neither had a complete picture.

WHAT THEY DID

They attended the Mapping Your Records session as a pair. The facilitator's walkthrough of document categories prompted several realisations during the session itself.

THE OUTCOME

Within two weeks they had completed the worksheet and identified three documents that needed updating. They described the process as straightforward once they had the right framework to work from.

"We had been meaning to do this for years. The session gave us a structure we could actually work with." β€” Margaret & Peter H., Phuket

Case Study 02

A Family with Three Adult Children Across Two Countries

THE SITUATION

A Thai-Australian family with children living in both Thailand and Australia. The parents had documents in multiple locations and had never had a clear conversation about their wishes with their children.

WHAT THEY DID

The parents attended the Family Intentions Workshop first, then shared the conversation guide materials with their adult children by email. They later joined Atlas Membership for ongoing resources.

THE OUTCOME

The family arranged a video call using the prompt cards as a starting point. They noted that having a structured topic made the conversation feel less fraught than they had anticipated.

"The prompts were the right amount of structure. Not too formal, just enough to give the conversation a direction." β€” Kannika S., Chalong

Case Study 03

An Expatriate Who Wanted to Continue Learning After the Workshop

THE SITUATION

A Canadian living in Rawai who attended the records workshop and found it useful, but felt he had more ground to cover and wanted to continue thinking about the subject.

WHAT THEY DID

He joined Atlas Membership the following month, initially to access the written resources. He has since attended three community sessions and downloaded several updated templates.

THE OUTCOME

Over several months he developed a fuller picture of his record-keeping and began the process of updating older documents he had identified. He described the membership as something he engages with at his own pace.

"It is the kind of subject you need to keep returning to. The membership means I do not have to do it all in one afternoon." β€” Robert L., Rawai
